Bands on the rise: Grim Streaker release debut EP at Wicked Lady 07.06

One of Brooklyn’s fiercest emerging bands will be releasing their debut EP next week. Grim Streaker, a five-piece punky outfit out of Brooklyn, will release Girl Minority, a four track collection, on July 7th. Their release show is scheduled for the day before at Wicked Lady, and, judging from the video below for single "Guts," we'll surely be in for a ferocious performance; the band has already picked up a reputation for their raucous, fanatical performances, that resurrect the intensity of 70s/80s punk rock. Singles “Psycho” and “Miami Girl” are ruthless punk anthems, carried by rapid drumbeats and bass lines, fuzzy guitar riffs, and abrasive, powerful vocal bursts from their charismatic lead singer, Amelia Bushell. – Pearse Devlin

Grim Streaker brings their "skate punk" to The Knit on May 5th

Grim Streaker is a band that delights in blowing ears off not only with volume but with melody. They hone a noisy sensibility that references at once post-punk and garage aesthetics that might lend itself well to skate videos and street art documentaries. Their work derives its vividness and energy from its contrasts. The guitars are full of fuzz and feedback but don’t dismiss catchiness of the underlying melodies. Much in the same way, Amelia Bushell’s vocals push through the noise with a defiant Joan Jett-esque sentimentality. If you’re a fan of skate rat rock, be sure to check out “Guts,” their debut single or see them in action at the Knitting Factory on May 5th or Cape House on June 9th. - Andrew Strader

Grim Streaker to lay down some noise-indie-garage vibes at Cape Town 3/25

Kicking off with just a couple of stick clicks, Grim Streakers’ debut track, “Guts,” errupts in a rush of noise and punk-rock bravado. The Brooklyn-based band thrusts the listen into an engulfing wall of sound that's at once thick, trashy and catchy. The release is a spitfire of a track that does it all while just clocking above the 2-minute mark, and if it's a sign of what's to come, then we're expecting big things out of the group. Catch Grim Streaker live at Cape Town 3/25 alongside Cold Fronts, The Howl, and The Boobies, and be sure to stream "Guts" below. - Olivia Sisinni
