THICK

Riot grrrl trio Thick performs at Union Pool 11.09

If you haven’t checked out Thick yet, now is probably a good time. The Brooklyn garage rock trio has been buzzing lately with a nod from The New York Times in an article on how women are making the best rock music and a feature on Glassnote Records Noteworthy Compilation. The attention is much deserved. Thick play hooky garage-pop that marries grit, power and three way harmonies. Whether you’re already a fan or just want to see what the hype is about, you can catch the band at Union Pool on November 9 with The Wants, BLED, and Future Twin. – Cameron Carr

Playlist! Oh My Rockness' list of 'NYC's Hardest Working Bands of 2016'

Our friends at OhMyRockness know a thing or two about what band plays where in NYC, and every year in December they publish the list of the local artists that played the most shows in the past 12 month: it's the 'NYC's Hardest Working Bands of 2016' list. It must be noted that, since OMR's deals with "Indie Rock" live listings, you won't find any songwriters or DJs or funk bands in this list. It seems like all bands are guitar based too for some reason. Since we were in the mood, we created a Soundcloud playlist of these ten artists, check it out below!

THICK works on 2017 release + plays at The Footlight 12/9; Sunnyvale 12/14

This week, Brooklyn’s girlwave trio THICK take their sandpapery brand of surf rock to support two fellow bands’ album releases. On Friday 12/9, they will join Baby Acid at The Footlight in Ridgewood as the latter release their new LP Don’t Blush When I Rip You Open. "Trash jazz" rockers Parlor Walls and female-fronted five-piece Ex-Girlfriends will round up the bill. Then on Wednesday 12/14, THICK will perform with shoegaze group Lazyeyes and punk funk troupe Toyzanne in order to support post-punk quartet Journalism, who will release their brand-new single. THICK themselves have played a number of shows over the last few weeks in support of their new EP It’s Always Something (which you can stream below.) They have major plans going into 2017, but you can still catch them before the year’s up. Don’t miss out. - Will Sisskind
